Have you ever been running vMix, OBS, or any other video mixer, and found that your system seemed to be maxed out? We have, especially on dual-GPU computers.

While Task Manager and Windows Management Interface provide some clues about GPU usage, I needed a tool that could show me, at a glance, GPU usage and CPU usage. Not only that, but show the specific applications using specific GPUs, and what they were doing.

This tool was developed to help us diagnose cross-GPU issues on multi-GPU computers.

Example Scenario: Intel GPU + NVidia GPU on an MSI ROG Laptop

On this laptop, we were running Zoom, vMix, and the awesome VideoCom Zoom Bridge. We were producing a hybrid event for a client. During our testing, we found that with just two 720p feeds from Zoom Bridge, the laptop was maxing out in CPU usage.

In our diagnosis, we saw that Zoom Bridge was using the Intel GPU, while vMix was using the NVidia GPU. Each frame produced by the Zoom Bridge had to be copied across the system bus to the NVidia GPU - this ate up the CPU and caused massive overload.

After we adjusted Windows 11's settings to force Zoom Bridge to run on the NVidia GPU, the problem was solved.

This app would have helped us diagnose this problem earlier. Not only does it show which processes are using the GPU, it shows the specific GPU, along with CPU Usage, including Kernel Time.

If you have a dual-GPU system and you produce events, this tool could help you diagnose bottlenecks.

Whether you're a gamer, a content creator, or a professional working with graphics-intensive applications, the Tractus GPU Usage Monitor is a great companion to maximize your GPU's potential.
